He was best mates of Alan and I know Jimmy. But I still have limited memories of Bolam Place and who was who and where they lived, I remember most of the people because of the Woody School.

Rob Buckham was in my class at school. I knew him and Ted better than the rest. I still see him odd times. It was him who told me abour Jimmy Mitchell and Neil Watson's deaths. Me and Jimmy used to walk to school every day.

No, can't say I remember them. As I say, I was only four when we moved away. My bro might, but then he was about six when we left Bolam.

Cheers Tonyg. Yeah I vaguely remember the Mercers. We used to live at Number 7, but we left Bolam Place when I was about four years old, so my memories of the place are limited. But was the Old Pit Dr A or Dr B? Or am I totally wrong here? As I say, I was too young to take anything in.

Cheers, Keith, I typed in Dr. Pit then thought ...hold on...it's station...no it isn't because there was a Dr A & B. To be bl..dy honest I still get mixed up after all these years. It is also embarrassing because my dad died down Dr Pit. (He was dead when those photos were taken.) My mother would never talk about it so we got to know odds and ends from others. So let's get this straight Keith, the pit in the photos is Station Pit? So the Dr A pit must be up the top end where the rows (raas) used to be? But which one was the old pit?

Thought I'd share these three family snaps with you from days we lived at Bolam Place. As you can see the Pioneer Boot Factory is at the top and beyond that the Dr. Pit. You can also see the scouts huts - which are still there. (PS the kid in the pram isn't Brad Pitt, it's me....I know there is a remarkable likeness but...)

Keith, I know this is a time-bomb waiting to go off and after looking at the Luton video put up by Malcolm I am really shocked at how certain Muslims regard non-believers. But with regards to boycotting 'corner shops' for the reasons you gave. I wouldn't dream of doing such an act, especially when you say we should go to the supermarkets instead. Especially when those same supermarkets were selling the populace horsemeat not so long ago! Did anyone advocate boycotting those? And also, we have a supermarket in Bedlington that is monopolysing the mainstreet, stopping other free trade from getting established. Surely we should be boycotting that for that one simple democratic flaw. The killing of that drummer is going to have wide repercussions but it is like I said elsewhere, there is good and bad in all colours and creeds, let's not start penalising the good guys along with the bad guys. that way madness lies.

Thanks for putting me right about the 444 - 44; I can remember one but vaguely the other. Now the 42, I may be wrong here but I'm sure that went to North Shields. We had friends in South Shields and we caught the 42 to the quayside and got the ferry across. In fact the 42 was still running that way until a couple of years ago - maybe it still is!!!

Yes, I saw Billy Ward had died, but I used to work with another Billy Ward when I was an apprentice painter for BUDC and got confused. I tell you what, Billy the photographer must have some incredible photos of Bedlingtom. As I said elsewhere, I believe he was the schools photographer as well. Can you imagine finding that cache in his attic!!!

Was it not the 444? I vaguely remember that bus. I got on at Stead Lane once and asked for a single to Ashington. The driver said "Are you sure?" About an hour later I arrived in Ashington having been to places I never knew existed. It was a bit like the old 343 from Morpeth to Whitley Bay. You took a packed lunch and a book to read.
