  1. I went to Barter Books a few years ago - just as a car backed into another. (Poor parking space when we went.) I would suggest Olivers at Whitley Bay, too. Its nearer Cullercoats actually - right down that way. But please please visit the Keel Row Bookshop in Shields - magical - all kinds of old books from every genre, fiction and non-fiction.
  2. Was it my post, Maggie? Because I posted Atlantic Realm by Clannad on the HEADPHONES site. I think they are one of the best bands to come out of the Emerald Isle - and of course Enya - got three of her CDs.
  3. It's one of these that will make you groan at not getting it. It comes under the Current Affairs section.
  4. Have you been here, Malcolm. The Keel Row North Shields. Me and Maria used to go often. It's like the Tardis - small to look at but once you get inside...
  5. No, a Bedlington book fayre is new to me, too. I can't remember there ever being one.
  6. That's the Hirst Head Ladies Pole-Vaulting team. They were disqualified for wearing lewd clothing.
  7. With regards to short list. I actually wanted to put a whole host of names on it, Symptoms, but talked myself out of it in case people thought I was being smartass. I honestly believe women have been more influential behind the scenes than we think, and by that I mean before they got the vote, etc. It may sound corny but love is a wonderful thing, and a man, in any position, whether it be a painter or a President, is going to respect that love, that wife, and he will listen to her and what she has to say. He will respect her opinions and no doubt be swayed by any wise counsel, and that applies to Ancient Greece or modern times. The list was short simply because I didn't want to start preaching, no other reason Symptoms.
  8. OKAY, VARMINTS, AM BACK. SO GET GUESSING WHAT THE CONNECTION IS.
  9. Having gone through a 'year' of hell with someone who had 'previous' - and who was but next door to me regardless, then I can only see this as a step in the right direction. So I hope it works out Keith. Good luck once again.

  11. I have noticed for some time that there are a lot of axemen out there. When I was young, good-looking and had hair, (stop laughing) I decided I wanted to be like Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues. So I bought myself a guitar, just like his Gibson, from Exchange and Mart. It was a beautiful cherry red Columbus 335 semi acoustic. I put Fender extra-light strings on it and started taking lessons at Grange Park - Jack Dickson/Dixon, who used to rattle a mean banjo. But I used to get my guitar accessories in three shops in Newcastle - Jeavons, Windows and Kitchens. I have posted photos of two of the shops and a picture of what my guitar used to look like. (That photo isn't mine.) The point is, I can't find any photos of Kitchens! It was down near the Laing Art Gallery, if my cauliflower serves me right. It was a big shop with revolving stands so you could stand at the window and wait for the guitars you fancied slowly spinning round. Can anyone else remember the shop?
  12. I got my English A level at the age of Forty, at the High School, and Bill was my evening class teacher. We started at 7pm and the heating timer went off at the same time, so we had to sit with coats and gloves on during the class. Me and Bill were the only ones to go for a pint that Christmas - we went to the Noerthumberland Arms. Lovely chap, you always felt at ease with him.
  13. Housing!!! Didn't they learn anything from the luxury apartments they put up at the top of the street? I counted one car in the car park the other week.
  14. Just watched The Sky at Night on IPlayer. Brilliant - they were up at Keilder. I'm pleased the show is still going with the regular presenters. I'm sure Sir Patrick will be much chuffed.
  15. I went to a Neighbourhood Watch meeting years ago. The building was full of council reps and big wig police chiefs. It was the time of the hoodies and ASBOs were just emerging. Well this police chief shot this old guy down in flames because he couldn't recognise the kids who were throwing bricks at his windows. Everyone was gobsmacked, even the pcs who were in attendance. This guy was trying to explain that he couldn't recognise the kids because they were wearing hoods - the police chief just couldn't take it in, told this guy the police couldn't help him if he wasn't willing to name names. Stupendous! Head-brick wall - head against brick wall!!!
  16. It's a complex business, Adam. It makes you wonder why people want to run for the job. Like the Lone Ranger says, I've got no faith in any party. What amazed me the last time was the amount of people I knew who voted BNP - because of the reasons above.
  17. Point taken, Adam, but he still represents party - leader politics.
