  1. Very relevant pilgrim. The 'Raw recruit poem' I sent to a grandson. His comment was simply 'a bit grim'
  2. tomtom the plans were out of date. They were being 'flagged up ' as current.
  3. Are you volunteering tomtom?
  4. Happy Birthday Fourgee.. I hope the hairy legs and wild boar were not a problem in Bedlington. I cannot comment on 'programmers errors'
  5. Very good question HPW Religion can be whatever people want it to be. Often power and corruption go hand in hand with religion. The Anglo / Saxon's were no exception. If you win a war because you believe God is on your side then that is the way forward. Our town played a part in that I am sure. What better place to be :- Two rivers for defence Lots of places to hide Viewpoints to see clearly out to sea. A little religion , Christian perhaps but worshiping the natural things in life Bedlington has it all . There is a thought that when people believe in nothing they believe in anything . The supernatural a believe in another space and time who knows . Religion as an insurance policy. Hence the Chantry in Morpeth . A code of ethics and morals! Religion and who believes what is still topical in any country anywhere. We are in Spain and the diversity of opinion through the ages is amazing but so are the areas of agreement . Architecture etc there is more to agree upon than disagree. However power and corruption can be relevant in any age and time!
  6. Amble /Warkworth Fantastic. However should we tell people how great the NE really is in the World!
  7. Either way it was a term of abuse. You are 'lopy' I think it applied to anything moving that was not to healthy. Hacky dirty maybe!
  8. I agree with Vic!
  9. Interesting subject next Monday at the History Society.
  10. Great detective work Bedlingtonian. I hope it can be enforced quickly for the benefit of our lovely front street.. The company concerned should see for themselves the reason for action. If not maybe an action by residents could seriously affect their trade.
  11. Well done threegee. However it could be said to be a good example of 'conflation'. Would the Greeks gain from the UK export figures? Use and abuse of argument perhaps! Anything can be justified.
  12. Harmony Peace Happiness Thought for today 20th Sept
  13. What would they be I wonder!
  14. This news is perhaps diverting opinion from the man and his mission . We need to look beyond his personal life. My thoughts on many items in the news is:- 'So what' My guess is this type of article sells newspapers and is designed to entertain not inform.
  15. A small step. It is hard waiting for the main show to be rolled out. Come on NCC.
  16. A balanced and fair comment mercuryg. Figures can give a false impression We have to ask 'Who Gains' from any opinion published.
  17. ...pauls comment is interesting. It means that the consultation is NOT reaching some people. The extremely hard working 'Make a Noise Group' have been at most Bedlington events recently asking people to help. They have been collecting opinions and now have over 2,000 on line followers. There is even a Terrier Blog. This site has been involved in commenting on the Bedlington Question. Obviously the old idea is /was that the Councillors and County Councillors should be available and accessible to the people who voted for them. Maybe they need to be proactive and make more of their views available to the people of Bedlington. That way opinions can be expressed in the light of what can and cannot be achieved. Local press have carried some information but maybe not enough. The Core Strategy has been in the planning stages for a long time and have had meetings at the Community Centre and the Council Offices. If people missed these events, I wonder how people like ...paul could be informed and allowed to be involved. If all this has been missed by people in Bedlington , the question really is :- How do our elected members get more people involved. For me ,as I have said ,the councillors and county councillors could /should all make it clear what they see as their own individual plans for the town. Over to you ..paul How should things be done.
  18. I wonder if the date of the picture is correct. Whitley Memorial or the Station is important so is the date. My lot would have left school if the date is really 1928 My Dad opted out of school to make money. The date of the photo rules out most of my relatives who lived in and around the Station.
  19. Basically the truth is in there somewhere. Owen Jones has written a couple of interesting books ( I have only read the covers)
  20. Malcolm have the pasties not just been renamed Beef and Veg. Should other items be renamed. Ie 'Yorkshire Pudding'
  21. That is a great photo Ovalteeny. Sadly the generation in my family who would recognise these people are long gone. Good luck with finding the names.
  22. My post merely recognised Ronnie Campbell as one of Jeremy Corbyn's inner circle ! Politic's is a funny old game. Nowt wrong with Micky Mouse and Foxy says he is missing from The Inner Circle. Who sang 'I'm in with the in crowd'
  23. No luck but a lot on the news here about the flypast. Max Hastings has a new book out. The Secret War I think. He was on breakfast TV yesterday and some of the stories of double dealing seem very interesting. The secrecy act means lots about what happened in the War is only now coming to light.
  24. Recognise anyone.
  25. I wonder what safeguards are in place about the wall next to the school. This goes onto the main road and path next to Church Lane A barrier is still in place. The crack is significant and alarming . It goes the full height of the wall. If the wall falls it could cause death and injury. Public liability insurance is all very well but stopping any accident occurring should be a priority. It seems the development, that never was, on this site was being 'flagged up recently' as a victory for council planning.
