  1. Aye 'we were poor but we were happy' As Monty Python might say! What comedy programme gave us the line 'I love scrap me' Now it is the scrap van recycling our old washers etc No rags or bones. The rags need to go to charity or 'Cash for Clothes' Then there is the Vintage shop next to The Red Lion. Such choice . Cash for a Clothes could do with a new vintage window if anyone has a spare.. One window fell out and has been replaced .
  2. It brings a new level to 'Self Preservation'. I wonder if they feel they could have done better.
  3. Sorry Vic I forgot to reply to you about Church Lane. The traffic on the Lane is a problem with The Church life meeting up with the developers HGV's. Etc. Reversing skills are essential. As we all know there are ways around but not for the biggest vehicles. Basically traffic wars.
  4. Just Bedlington mercuryg. Not sure 'quietly incognito' applies. Any classic spy must be aware The Red Lion is not the place to go. Love the idea of The Times folded under one arm, a carnation in the right buttonhole and a badge saying 'I am mercuryg' Symptoms of course would have The Guardian folded under one arm. Many times in Bedlington I have said 'I am not too sure who that is ' to be told of course you do it's so and so daughter/ son etc
  5. Maybe a change of plan with a new labour leader.
  6. There was a family called Walker living in Church Lane. They owned a butchers shop at the Market Place. Circa 50's
  7. Obviously a memorable date Foxy! Then there are always three point turns.
  8. Open Season. Aye and who believes you. Just not in my back yard. Only react to the disease not the cause. Sadly.
  9. If you plan to die or get married beware you may meet with a large vehicle on this narrow lane. Practice reversing first.
  10. Seems to me that the developers win every time. The Core Strategy Brief Guide States 'We have to consider some new developments on green field sites and in the Green Belt' The guide proposes a managed approach to reviewing the existing Green Belt, in order that we protect it against pressure from inappropriate developments. Open Season.
  11. This site could be bought by Arch for a hotel.
  12. I wonder if a voluntary group does the flowers in Morpeth. If not Bedlington should get a very special award. Great effort and good publicity .
  13. Those were the days. A belt made to last . Your tale reminds me off the film 'The Producers' ' I am wearing a cardboard belt' Not made to last .
  14. Try listening to Bear's Den. Above the Clouds of Pompeii.
  15. Another week another £4:5 m deal with Arch. funding. This time it is a forty bed roomed inn. 'The Commissioners Quay Inn for Blyth. I can see a similar development being successful in Bedlington. Somewhere people with Bedlington Terriers and an interest in history can stay. Railway history Early Christianity and much more. What will happen next week with Arch funding?
  16. Could old animal bones after cooking and stock making be ground down to make 'Bonemeal' for the gardens. 'Waste not want not'
  17. The Guardian headlines yesterday are relevant to our town. Ok under different issues. 'We have caught the public mood . This is about hope' Corbyn Come on politicians the public mood is one of hope and a belief in Bedlington. Forget what went wrong , help to make Bedlington a centre of excellence. Firstly put us on the MAP.
  18. Sadly I am not sure I could find the manhole cover again . Interesting that rhey could be made in China!
  19. In Lancashire it seems the shout was ' rags for donkey stones'
  20. The flowers around Saint Cuthbert's church are looking good . Often the small steps make a huge difference. Well done to all involved, our town is a great place to live.
  21. Like an election , I would love to see all five of our Bedlingtonshire / Northumberland County Councillors give us details of their plans for our town. Consultation is good but we need to know what is possible and exactly what these people who are our elected representatives see or plan for the future.. One starting point would be to see our town on large sign posts on the Spine Road and the A1. Brown heritage notices about the importance of our history. Cycle tracks need to include Bedlington on the county map.
  22. I wonder what is possible. Creating a vibrant town centre will take money and good will. What money is available? What grants will be forthcoming? What can be done with the current buildings? Why did Tesco pull out and not go through with their plans? There is so much land and so much to consider ! At the moment the car park is an asset for any lorry company travelling up and down the country. Not many towns have a blank canvas !. Developers should be queuing up,
  23. Sitting on their 'Honkers'. Good point Symptoms.
  24. Active Northumberland and Northumberland County Council are investing £3.5 million to modernise Concordia. Something about new family entertainment at the centre. Work to start September. Clip and Climb Activity Soft Play facilities Ten pin bowling Bruce Ledger chief exec of Active Northumberland says this is just the start of our site improvements Councillor Val Tyler cabinet member for arts leisure and culture says ".We recognise that there is an increased demand for proved facilities and the refurbishment will make the centre fit for the 21st century" If health and wellbeing is so very important we can expect great things to happen in Bedlington. After all Val is our very own County Councillor and lives right here in Bedlington. .
  25. Painting the railings by the Red Lion green and gold to match the bins and flower tubs is great.
