  1. The rally went well but will it save our steel industry. I hope so Tonyp.
  2. The news in the NE yesterday featured a Muslim girl abused by a lout on the metro. People power to the rescue. Lout forced off the train at the next stop. The result was everyone clapped. I wish all the World troubles could be settled so easily . The truth of all these issues is in there somewhere.
  3. Brilliant programme last night on the BBC. Imagine.
  4. Excellent film. Inspirational : every child and parent should watch this and learn the value of education.
  5. So many names so many faces that are remembered. Brilliant history.
  6. The Tin Mission. Glebe Row. Sunday School. I was a regular. My book 'Folk Tales of Northumberland and Durham ' awarded for good attendance has been a huge influence on my life and love of history. The tin Mission was just before a 'cut ' through to Bishops Meadow I think.
  7. I believe the Skipsey family owned the Hirst Head Farm before the Swann family. Maybe a long time ago 16th /17th century. The poem on the Hartley Mining disaster by Joseph Skipsey is very emotional.. You imagine the families helpless above ground while their loved ones are alive but underground and trapped. It took days for the miners to die . Some were just young children.
  8. There could be a line into Ashington (centre of the universe) from Pegswood. Which Bedlington Councillors could congratulate themselves for that. It seems to me that there are an awful lot of congratulatory pictures in the papers and social media with no real concrete action. When when when are we going to see actions speaking louder than words or pictures. Basically we have heard all these promises but nothing but nothing happens. The elected members just talk but rarely carry anything through. Tesco's Rail line. Plans for town centre. The list could go on and on. All that seems to happen are more plans to take more away from the Front Street . Chemists to the library. Pulling the Council Offices down. We all wait but all promises seem empty of action. Come on elected members start putting actions before words and pictures. Give us something to thank you for, not just the promise if things getting better.!
  9. Aye Eggy, well done you had us all wondering when you knew all along. Guess you bought or sold the postcard
  10. Save for his broadsword he weapons had none.
  11. Hope the flight was seen and filmed.
  12. We need to think of protest songs 'We shall overcome some day ' 'All my trials Lord soon be over' 'All we are saying is give Bedlington a chance'
  13. At least it is on the Main Street . Now let us see the main event from Arch and NCC. The excitement is just too much !
  14. Gone to soon Tried to edit but interesting word association.
  15. I keep looking at the picture and thinking top of the road near Humford. Basically where the new road meets the old road that went past Broadway House Farm. There may well have been some building there Basically then the photo would be taken from the Bebside road side. The river bends there I hhonk and the track would be the one that still exists
  16. You are a mind of information mercuryg. Good luck in seeing 'Vulcan'. I hope we can expect to see pictures of the plane over Northumberland
  17. One favourite of mine was Lochinvar. A little too romantic maybe!
  18. Very relevant pilgrim. The 'Raw recruit poem' I sent to a grandson. His comment was simply 'a bit grim'
  19. tomtom the plans were out of date. They were being 'flagged up ' as current.
  20. Are you volunteering tomtom?
  21. Happy Birthday Fourgee.. I hope the hairy legs and wild boar were not a problem in Bedlington. I cannot comment on 'programmers errors'
  22. Very good question HPW Religion can be whatever people want it to be. Often power and corruption go hand in hand with religion. The Anglo / Saxon's were no exception. If you win a war because you believe God is on your side then that is the way forward. Our town played a part in that I am sure. What better place to be :- Two rivers for defence Lots of places to hide Viewpoints to see clearly out to sea. A little religion , Christian perhaps but worshiping the natural things in life Bedlington has it all . There is a thought that when people believe in nothing they believe in anything . The supernatural a believe in another space and time who knows . Religion as an insurance policy. Hence the Chantry in Morpeth . A code of ethics and morals! Religion and who believes what is still topical in any country anywhere. We are in Spain and the diversity of opinion through the ages is amazing but so are the areas of agreement . Architecture etc there is more to agree upon than disagree. However power and corruption can be relevant in any age and time!
  23. Amble /Warkworth Fantastic. However should we tell people how great the NE really is in the World!
  24. Either way it was a term of abuse. You are 'lopy' I think it applied to anything moving that was not to healthy. Hacky dirty maybe!
