  1. I wonder when the Black Bullets were first made. Interesting name for sweets.
  2. Your book is precious ! I am going to try the Bedlington Library Foxy.
  3. BBC 4 tonight at eleven Jack Bruce The Man Behind the Bass. It is a repeat.
  4. I had forgotten the Paul Mc Cartney song and video . Well remembered Canny Lass and Adam !
  5. At Free thinking someone maybe Karen Armstrong said by their very nature all governments are combative. Interesting thought 'Strong Government' Who can fight for us in Europe and beyond!!!
  6. Have you ever thought about becoming a Stand up comedian Symptoms. You could give John Shuttleworth a run for his money.
  7. For any History you have to ask who wrote it and look for any primary sources! Everyone in this case can be right! Basically think about a Bedlington Council Meeting and any minutes need to be understood in light of which side your on. Unless you have a recording that has not been tampered with.
  8. The whole CD/LP of Moondance is great but for us it has to be Astral Weeks. Wavelength is another favourite. The record he did with the Chieftains is another regularly played. He teamed up with Brian Kennedy in later years which was worth a listen. Really could not pick out an all time favourite. On one occasion we saw him and he got irritated that someone shouted for 'Brown Eyed Girl' Next time it was on his play list.
  9. I think HMRC is underfunded like most government departments. Less and less employees do more and more work it seems! There is an argument under 'Quantative Easing' for putting the money in a helicopter and throwing it out to stimulate the economy. Instead of that employ people! Start with bus conductors and solve traffic congestion. Well not entirely! In the past there were so many more local jobs and people supported the local economy.
  10. There could well be a burial under the old school. Digging down to road level. Forget the land banking. Compulsory purchase order. Let's get to the bottom of it all!
  11. Political debate is fine by me.
  12. So the 26th November is the important day. Road closed and party time. We are going to have to leave the Red Lion, last year we watched the parade from the windows.. Winter woollies on.
  13. Topics of General Interest:- I have taken the title literally. Basically anything that would interest someone in Bedlington. Something to chat/ talk about in the town. (Pub, Church or outside Tesco's ) Something you would not want showing up on a search engine maybe.
  14. Topics of general interest! Why do we bother!
  15. I am not going to repeat what I said threegee. You have your own reasons for pressing the delete button. Chill and learn
  16. His style and presentation are great. The music is equally good and yes he can sing. Seem to remember he even used a Renault 4 on on LP
  17. Brilliant idea toffo. Fingers crossed it could work.
  18. Great pictures Foxy. Good place for a 'Rendezvous' Vera was once there having coffee.
  19. The CAB is a great help to a huge number of people. The work they do is valuable and worthwhile.
  20. It is said we cannot avoid 'Taxes and Death' Nevertheless each week we read or hear about another scheme that avoids our tax system. Everything from off shore accounts to corporate headquarters that can move easily and quickly from country to country. Depending on tax breaks. Bankruptcy or liquidation, even in our town , appears to favour certain schemes and individuals. Land banking seems to have stalled development on sites in the Market Place. Income per annum and total assets can be held in limited companies. Bonus payments and profits can , it seems , be manipulated. Defining 'Rich' or putting a figure on creative accounting is not possible. As tonyp points out there are points at which the 'Poor' try to beat the system. Your last statement threegee gives another viewpoint. We should all become lawyers maybe. The Grandparent argument is an interesting one. My Grandparents were 'Rich' in having good neighbours and a decent way of life. They believed the benefit system to be 'Charity' and you did everything in your power to be independent.
  21. I believe the cast iron rails were made here in Bedlington before Birkinshaw. They replaced the wooden rails. Folk Tales / Folk Music oral history is always fascinating . By it's very nature it is subject to the fact or fiction debate.
