  5. Muter's Pop wagon - photo posted by Jeff Slaughter Snr. in 2014 on Bygone Bedlington FB group. No date or where the photo was taken was posted. As the metal railings dividing the path from the front garden are still there we assume it has to be pre WWII as all the metal railings around the council houses were removed to help the war effort.
  6. @Sloopy .Dog - in the 'Bedlington Colliery' topic you mentioned you were looking into the buisness and who owned them. rather than mix up the topics I have created this one and the following images give you two businesses, Muter's pop & James haulage, that used to be there. This photo of Muter Pop factory posted on the Bygone Bedlington FB group by John Krzyznowski. A member of this group - @Ovalteeny - used to work for T James in 1964

  9. Cheers James - image updated. I'm assuming the Choppington 'A' & 'B' pits were right nest to each other. The DMM site only has the one entry but does say 'A' & 'B' pit
  10. I did download Google Earth Pro a couple of years ago and had a bit play but I though my Desktop PC didn't have enough working memory to use all the features without having to swap different procedure code in and out of memory. So I went beck to using Google maps which does have the facility to switch Street Views back to 2008-9. I haven'r read Steven B. Martin's booklet on Barrington. I rely on ex Barn'ton lads who are Admin of the Facebook group - Barrington, Barnt'n memories and stuff!!! - if I need info. I don't know who added the text to this one but Chapel Row is named🙂
  11. @Grahame Appleby - I can see from the images you posted that you use Google Street view. If you search for Northumberland Arms East End Front Street, Bedlington you can see a 'Then (2009) & Now (2020)' of The Village School = Bedlington Old School. Just swivel around 180 degress from looking at The Northumberland Arms and on the right of the entrance to Church Lane you will see the 2020 view of the flats built on the land where the Old School and playground used to be. If you then move into Church Lane it switches from a 2020 view to a 2009 view and the Old school can be seen.
  12. @Canny lass & @Grahame Appleby- yep, I had forgotten about Chapel Row at the east End of Bedlington☺️ I have never accessed the census records - do you two pay to access the records or do you use the FreeCEN web site? Grahame - do you live in Bedlington? It's just that it makes it less to type and explain when replying to someone who knows the area. Do we know how many houses there was in the Bedlington Chapel Row? Barrington Chapel Row had 21 :-
  13. @Grahame Appleby - I could have this wrong but the only Chapel Row that I can bring to mind at the moment is the one that used to be at Barrington. Would the Barrington Chapel Row be the one on the 1921 census?
  14. Photo from George Fritton - N08. Names from George Fritton & Lilyan Haley Wilkinson
  15. @Sloopy .Dog - never sen it refered to as a church but according to a transcipt on the Iron Wporks by Christopher Bergen the inscription above the door was :- .....................From Hawkes and Longridge the concern passed to Biddulph and Gordon, of London. It is difficult to decide when their ownership began or ended. Wallace says that they held them for 50 years. In that case they must have acquired them at the sale just mentioned, but in the ‘New County History.’ Mr Forster, quoting ‘The Industrial Resources of the Tyne, Tees and Wear,’ says they acquired them in 1809. This, of course, makes Wallace’s statement impossible. They certainly did hold them in 1829. The clock house appears to have been built by them, a stone over the door being carved with the date 1829, the initials of ‘G & B’ and a Latin inscription ‘VIVITUR IGNE ET AQUA ET FERRO DEO FAVENTE,’ of which a rough rendering would be: ‘We live by fire and water and iron and God’s favour’............... 16. @Canny lassOn the Blyth FB group Bob Simmons posted this photo of the bridge and the Clock House is still there but he didn't have a date for the photo. I posted the photo on the Bygone Bedlington FB group hoping some car geek would recognise the vehicles on the Hairpin Bend and come up with an approximate date but it didn't happen. @John Fox (foxy) - four years ago posted the following photo of the Clock House and I was able to add a couple of comments. On the Bedlington remembered FB group (I am no longer a member of that group) one member said his mam had some of the engraved stone plague, that was above the door of the Clock House, in her garden. and would like it to be passed on to anyone that was interested - that was probably 4 or 5 years ago. I contacted east Bedlington Council, via email, and I did get a reply from a secretary who said that a councilor (can't remember the name) was given a budget to look into the history of the area and hopefully document the info found and possibly commission some feature to display the info/history uncovered. Unfortunately after a few emails and many months the response from east Bedlington Council ceased so I assume the research was dropped. I had a good tidy out of my email inbox and i deleted the emails on this subject as I assumed no more would be heard. This is the photo Foxy posted and you can see from my comment a bit of what was on the plaque above the door. The article, that my link to the newspaper article pointed to, no longer exists. Perhaps I should have asked Tracey Gair, her family might have known something
