I can't remember Jennings market garden, Keith, but I do remember Doyle's Shop at Riverview, around the corner from the Bank Top - bottom of Wood Side. It's a house now. In fact the bus stop there is still known as Doyle's Shop by the locals.

Both me and bro recognise the name, Keith, but we can't 'place' him. I just can't visualize him. He may be on one of the school photos in the Whitley School section on site!

There are, Symptoms, but they are mainly church orientated and not local, either - ie, mission work in other countries, photographs of churches in other towns, etc, so I didn't think anyone would be interested.

I've just left the girlfriend lying on the bed, panting for breath and moaning. Damn it! I should have kept the pillow pressed down longer!!

You're right, Threegee, we should look at things from both perspectives and prevention is always better than cure. I don't know that much about Scargill and maybe we should all take heed of both sides before we totally condem an individual. But it still rankles me that troops were used and that local bobbies knew they were being used. I had never heard of that until now.

Threegees right. I buy a lot of books off Amazon and sometimes I have to go through a seller. But the price of P&P is always at the top of their 'charges list'. I bought a paperback for 1p recently but the P&P was £2.80. I sometimes have to order from America and it can work out cheaper. (Though maybe not now) I must admit Amazon are the best so I'll just have to grin and bear it.

I saw the one on the Great Pacific Trash Vortex some time ago. It's quite appaling the amount of plastic that is still floating about and polluting the seas. But will we learn!!!! No chance.

With regards to the submarine connection at the King's Arms, Seaton Sluice - Blyth harbour was a submarine base, so that might be the connection. Here is a short Youtube video I found. The submarine bit is about 2 minutes in.

Yeah, we got diverted the last time we went up. If you are up that way try the chip shop in Tynemouth, they do pensioner specials. The King's is nice, we were there last year. Have you tried Castaways just up the road from the King's?

Us Lockeys and our neighbours the Wooletts used to go up to Cullercoats and the beach, to us kids, was massive. Now when me and Maria go up there I cannot believe how small it is. My memories of Cullercoats always bring back egg and tomato sandwiches and blue, plastic cups from a picnic hamper. PS, having some problems with the font and size on this one - even though I've changed it!!

Absolutely right, Symptoms, regarding sticking your head under the blankets and letting your breath heat the bed. I was a master at it. I'd raise the blanket for a few seconds to let some air in then down would come the blankets again. I used to have two pillows. one under my head and one on top of it and the blankets and sheets HAD to be tucked under the mattress to make it draught-proof. A tactic I used with the fire was to buy a bag of sticks at George Strakers and make a lattice of sticks and coal when the fire went down - just as if i was laying it from scratch. The sticks supplemented the coals and you could get a good fire all night. Two vital tools - bleezer and poker, if you didn't have a bleezer then the News of the World would do.

Does anybody know anything about greyhound racing or whippet racing? - The girlfriend says she want to go dogging tonight.
