  1. Politics is by its very nature adversarial ! The Bedlington Question is sadly being played out to great effect ( if you like strategy games ) My wish would be for all parties to work ( and play) together in the interests of Bedlington Sadly we have claims of negativity by certain individuals while they are negative about all the other parties. We have claims of people/individuals moaning while they moan about the people who are moaning. Basically Negativity may be necessary in order to then be positive. Like history we need to learn from the past so we do not repeat the mistakes.
  2. The West Bedlngton Town Council Newsletter is interesting. It informs us that this site has not passed the contaminated land conditions A case officer with NCC planning department claims that for the building work to commence several conditions had to be met. In 2007 planning permission was granted on condition a contaminated land survey was submitted and appropriate remediation measures agreed and implemented before any development started. They state to date this important condition has not been discharged by the developer. If this is not dangerous to future occupants then the wall of the Whitley Memorial may finish the job. A crack has appeared onto the Main Street and the wall could fall. Check out the camera. Barricades have appeared but may not check or hold the movement.
  3. The News Post Leader for the 20 th August carries a front page photo of Grant Davey , Alyson Wallace and Val Tyler in front of the day centre. The basis of the headline is 'Jobs Boost for county as store lines up new sites. It seems 'Up to 50 posts will be created at two shops with proposals for more to come'. The problem is the plans are yet to be submitted. They are said to be submitted in the coming weeks.
  4. Good Luck Paul. Hope the web site draws lots of local people to read about your writing career.
  5. Not heard anything Bedlingtonian. So many of these new builds are Private Finance Initiatives. Local and national tax payers finance the schemes on buy now pay later.
  6. You could be right Symptoms. There seems to be a 'self destruct ' button.
  7. Fixing this swimming pool would be 'small change' to Arch. I like the idea of a new leisure centre instead of houses on the site next to Hazlemere. Then these people could be employed in the new centre. In the mean time 'Arch please please fix the pool'
  8. Thing is do I let the Grandkids play with it and others maybe priceless toys. Decisions decisions! Life can be difficult.
  9. To sell or not to sell.
  10. I prefer the meaning of life . Maybe along the lines of The meaning of life lies with each other grandparents parents sisters and brothers. Obviously friends add to that mix particularly if you are an only one. Sorry to lower/raise the tone but there have been three deaths to cope with this week.
  11. Aye 'we were poor but we were happy' As Monty Python might say! What comedy programme gave us the line 'I love scrap me' Now it is the scrap van recycling our old washers etc No rags or bones. The rags need to go to charity or 'Cash for Clothes' Then there is the Vintage shop next to The Red Lion. Such choice . Cash for a Clothes could do with a new vintage window if anyone has a spare.. One window fell out and has been replaced .
  12. It brings a new level to 'Self Preservation'. I wonder if they feel they could have done better.
  13. Sorry Vic I forgot to reply to you about Church Lane. The traffic on the Lane is a problem with The Church life meeting up with the developers HGV's. Etc. Reversing skills are essential. As we all know there are ways around but not for the biggest vehicles. Basically traffic wars.
  14. Just Bedlington mercuryg. Not sure 'quietly incognito' applies. Any classic spy must be aware The Red Lion is not the place to go. Love the idea of The Times folded under one arm, a carnation in the right buttonhole and a badge saying 'I am mercuryg' Symptoms of course would have The Guardian folded under one arm. Many times in Bedlington I have said 'I am not too sure who that is ' to be told of course you do it's so and so daughter/ son etc
  15. Maybe a change of plan with a new labour leader.
  16. There was a family called Walker living in Church Lane. They owned a butchers shop at the Market Place. Circa 50's
  17. Obviously a memorable date Foxy! Then there are always three point turns.
  18. Open Season. Aye and who believes you. Just not in my back yard. Only react to the disease not the cause. Sadly.
  19. If you plan to die or get married beware you may meet with a large vehicle on this narrow lane. Practice reversing first.
  20. Seems to me that the developers win every time. The Core Strategy Brief Guide States 'We have to consider some new developments on green field sites and in the Green Belt' The guide proposes a managed approach to reviewing the existing Green Belt, in order that we protect it against pressure from inappropriate developments. Open Season.
  21. This site could be bought by Arch for a hotel.
  22. I wonder if a voluntary group does the flowers in Morpeth. If not Bedlington should get a very special award. Great effort and good publicity .
  23. Those were the days. A belt made to last . Your tale reminds me off the film 'The Producers' ' I am wearing a cardboard belt' Not made to last .
  24. Try listening to Bear's Den. Above the Clouds of Pompeii.
