The horrible white base spoils the effect. Was this structure already there? I can't remember the height of the tide at Newbiggin but maybe it would have looked better if the figures had been anchored on the foreshore (at ground level) with the sea lapping at their feet. Of course other beach users may have objected to this - a bit like those miserable folk on Merseyside who complained about Gormleys beach figures.
I agree, I think thats why they looked so small to me - because of the huge white structure they stand on. The fact that it's bright white doesn't help either.

Well, looking at the new section so far, Bedlingtonians are rather happy with the place:

A good start in anyones view eh?
No ones got the heart to put the place down. It is home, after all.

England 2-1 Germany
England 1-1 Germany

All blokes have good eyes when it comes to thongs..but they`re suddenly blind if there`s dishes in the sink
Malcolm must have x-ray vision to see a thong through a pair of bronze jeans!
-
Thats a new one on me, where is Gallagher park?
It's the pit heaps Pete
-
Don't you mean sun parasols?
Same thing.

Just because Hamburger is the moderator of this section doesn't mean he has to write all the content for it.

I think she has a nice backside but did she really have to wear a thong and why has the guy got a flat cap on? Is it supposed to be representational of Newbiggin folk or what? Bit like the "Angel" the subject matter might have been a bit different but at least something is there for the world to see.
Malcolm, how do you know she's got a thong on?
Thats just the hem of the jeans, besides any women would be hard pressed to find a pair of full knickers these days.
I know what you mean though, I wondered if they were supposed to represent people of the north, with the cap and the miserable faces!
But at least we can say we have something different!
-
True,i don`t know how they make any money
I see a few pubs have installed benches / tables / umbrellas outside now for the smokers.
-
I went to see them yesterday, I was expecting them to be a bit bigger than they were.
-
Hadly the point, it's about personal feelings and choices.
I'd bet the sheer number of pubs in Bedders marks it out from the crowd though!
It's the whole point for me; If Bedlington has nothing different to any other town in England, then whats so special?
As for the pubs, what marks Bedlington out there is the fact that we have so many and yet their always empty.

I have a question: Why are some shops closed half day on a Wednesday?
-
Come on, lets face it, we have no need to complain at the choice of food available!
just within walking distance of the front street we have:
4 places to choose from for pizza (Best Bite, Chinchillas, Moby Dicks, The Italian place next to the Northumberland arms)
3 Chinese restaurants (2 on glebe road and Bens next to the Northumberland arms)
1 Indian restaurant (Ashianna)
1 Mederteranian restaurant (next to simply drinks, front street)
2 fish and chip shops (Moby dicks and the one next to Best Bite)
and at least 1 pub (Ridge Farm, not sure if the tavern does food anymore!) and thats just off the top of my head! Did i miss any?
Moving on to the station and theirs more!
Of course theirs always the question of quality, but to be honest, I've had good and bad in just about every place i've ever been, And Bedlington's food outlets are mostly good!
I don't know... every town has plenty of the above.
It doesn't really make Bedlington any different from anywhere else, does it?.

I think if someone wants to have their shop open for 24 hours a day then fair enough, if theres a big enough demand for milk on a Saturday night!
-
Have you got any friends, Blank?
Yes, but don't worry CK, theres plenty of room for you too!
-
-
not really, just winding down after last nights debaucheries
-
i.e gallagher park (the heaps) plessey and the halfpenny woods i think thats what its called! not to forget humford woods and dam! nice
That was rather sensible!
Bedlington might not have the best shopping facilities but at least we have nice places to walk the dog!
-
Hi Hamburger. Love your picture. Very handsome
-
Aye,it does a bit.I think Chat Centrals ok the way it is after all
Plus if someone starts a thread with good intentions, and then just to be awful people give it a one star rating - it could break their hearts!
-
So,who`s the new mod of Chat Central? Any news yet?
Yeah, we're all dying to know who it is!
-
It`s pointless in this forum coz no-one uses it
I don't mind it but I have to admit, it does make the forum look a bit messy!
-
Who's idea was the new section?
I'm struggling to think of anything I like about the place but I don't want to put the place down either!
-
Well, they do say 74.3% of all statistics are made up on the spot and do not reflect any real results!
Fair enough!

It's true Mr Darn, they have a little park there, it's been there for years now.
At the weekends theres football on too, and I've seen kids teams playing there on a few occasions.
I went a couple of weeks ago and I saw a huge hare, I didnt realise they were so big! Then again it was sitting at the top of the hill which probably made it look even bigger!
I saw a fox once too, mind it was dead but still...
There's lots of nice wild flowers, they dont last long though because the grass cutters come around every so often.
You should get yourself away up there sometime, when you get your camera you never know, you might even get some decent photos.
